Book Review: Leather & Lark by Brynne Weaver

‘Leather & Lark’ is the second book in the Ruinous Love Trilogy, which follows the eldest Kane brother, Lachlan and Sloane’s friend, Lark. Lachlan is a contract killer and seeks to retire from this gory world. Singer Lark Montague has offered Lachlan: hunting down a killer and in return, he has to marry her. Meanwhile, the phantom in the shadows is seeking for a revenge.

My review

I like this book more than Butcher and Blackbird #1!! Lark and Lachlan are a perfect match! The plot is really good. The pizza🍕/ smoothie scene is MUCH wilder than the eyeballs thing in #1!!!Lark’s aunt is soo cute and hilarious! I LOVE their first encounter♥️ The way Lachlan finds out Lark is a ‘multiple deleter’ is soo funny! When he discovers it, I was like ‘your wife has a whole dead body in her coffee table!! Lachlan was caught listening to a spicy audiobook in the car is the funniest thing ever!

I don’t like the proportion of the dialogue and internal monologue. I realised this in #1, this book has much more internal monologue and it feels like you’re constantly in the character headspace and it feels like there’s less verbal interaction between the characters.

CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT:

“My feckin’ catastrophe.”

The character development for both character are better than #1. The development is much more balanced. I really love all those sweet things Lachlan did to make Lark feel better. He watched Constantine12 times and he reads the script to make her fall asleep!!! Lark’s character is also well developed. The book talk about her past and the reason she’s afraid of the dark. She wrote a song for Lachlan. YOU CAN HEAR HER SINGING IN THE AUDIOBOOK!!! I love both of them💚 You can really feel how they start to care for each other because of this arranged marriage.

SPICE🔥:

I love the spice in this book so much more than the ones in #1!!! Their first spicy scene is sooo good🔥 And the scene when Lark is performing🤭… SOO GOOD!! THAT BONUS CHAPTER… 😮‍💨 just when you thought it’s the ending, Brynne just gives you more!

Conclusion

Overall I enjoy the relationship between Lachlan and Lark more than Rowan and Sloane. I enjoy the build-up and the pacing in this book. The climax is much more dramatic and how the storyline links from #1 to this one. I would highly recommend listening to the audiobook. This book is for people who want to have a good laugh while enjoy a dark and spicy read.
